Unlawful Background Checks
Chavez & Gertler attorneys represent workers who have been required to submit to a background check as a condition of their employment. Many employers require job applicants and current employees to submit to a background check—sometimes called a “consumer report”—as a condition of employment. California and federal law regulate what information may be included in a background check, and how employers may use the information they obtain. You can find out more these laws and your rights here.
If you believe you have been the subject of an unfair or unlawful background check, you may be able to recover $10,000.
